For EUSC the new season has started better than anyone could have predicted. Following a record number of members signing up at Fresher’s Fair, St. Luke’s pool has been a very busy place. Therefore, to accommodate the club’s growth it has delighted all swimmers that the club has managed to secure the larger pool at Pyramids leisure centre, for one session each week. This offers 3 extra lanes, providing much more space for our full range of abilities. Another big announcement from this month has been the introduction of two new coaches. Firstly, it has been a pleasure to welcome Jo John, head coach at Exeter City Swimming Club, to our BUCS session. Having previously worked with British Swimming, Jo now brings her expertise to our squad. With some of our swimmers already competing for Exeter City, the link between our clubs continues to strengthen. On top of this, Alex Cameron, a member of our BUCS squad, will be on poolside to help provide our development lane with guidance and support during one of our busiest sessions. With an increased number of swimmers, the addition of both Jo and Alex will maintain and enhance the depth of the club, from competitive to those learning to swim and develop fitness.
Over the summer, acceptance of EUSC onto the High Performance Programme (HPP), something we have tried to achieve for several years, came as very exciting news. A handful of our squad will be taking part in the extra strength and condition training throughout the year, and specifically ahead of the BUCS short course competition. This year the meet will be held in mid November, at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. Due to extra funding we are able to include an extra 9 swimmers in the squad making a team of 27, who are; Seun Olusanya, Magan Wainwright, Lydia Smith, Hannah Pullinger, Alex Holt, Lindsay Sawyer, Ekaterina Zossimova, Shannon Randolph, Cara Thompson, Anna Bedford, Amelia MacHugh, Tanisha Sayers, Dominic Wooldridge, Ronny Tang, Peter Lewis, Oliver Sherratt, Michael Grace, Robert Moran, Ibai Izaga, Joseph Massey, Alex Cameron, Sam Harvey, Panagiotis Christodoulis, Nick Shonen Eddy Wragg, Brad Skillicorn and Lewis Green. Congratulations to all for their performance at trials.
To end the first term we will of course be hosting our annual Christmas dinner, which promises to bring festivities to all. The 2014 event will be held at Weatherspoon’s Imperial Free House on New North Road, on Wednesday 10th December. Come and be reunited with friendly faces, sing classic swimming Christmas songs and get presents from our Santa sack. The event will start at 6.30pm, so if you are interested please email Alex Winter at email@example.com for more details. Click here for the facebook event, to keep updated. As you can see we’ve had a number of great successes in first term, in and out of the pool, so we hope to continue in this manner for the rest of the year.
