Happy New Year to all of you, hopefully your Christmas period was enjoyable and not too stressful with revision etc. Term 2 promises to be an exciting time for EUSC this year with the all regular fixtures taking place and some new opportunities thrown in. Firstly let me mention that during exam week (4th -11thJan) we’ll be running a reduced training schedule to fit around exams. Please check your emails and the Facebook page/ website to find out which sessions are available. These dates will be confirmed in the next few days.
Trials for BUCS Long Course will take place on the 14th and 21st January respectively. Dom will send out an email soon so keep your eyes peeled.
Cardiff Training Camp
Before the BUCS Competition takes place, we’ll be holding a training camp in Cardiff to get some Long Course practice in. This will take place on the 5th-7thFebruary so save the date! We’ll be staying in a cosy Youth Hostel just outside the city centre. The training camp includes 3 Long Course swimming sessions and a Gym session led by Dave; an old EUSC Legend… We’ll also have a few fun things going on during the weekend, I’ll send out an email in the next few weeks to confirm prices and other details.
This is another key feature of the term 2 calendar for EUSC. We organise a gala at Pyramids and invite several other universities to compete against. It’s a great chance to swim if you missed out on BUCS and every member is eligible to swim because we enter multiple teams. The event is a great chance for the club to raise money and awareness for worthy causes and promote itself as part of the Athletic Union. We’ll open a vote before the event to decide which charity we want to support, If you have a suggestion for a charity please let us know and we can add it to the vote.
Natalie has informed me that she’s looking to sort out another order for the first few weeks of term so keep checking to make sure you don’t miss your opportunity to look awesome! The original order of stash arrived at the back end of last term and is available for collection. Natalie will send out an email soon and post on the Facebook page to confirm these collection times.
Jess is organising our team for this year. For those of you who aren’t aware, Rock Solid is an Mud run/ Endurance Obstacle Course you complete as a group. Challenges include hydroslides and wall climbs. You can check out the website here: http://www.rocksolid.life/race-teams.html It’s always been well received by the people who take part. If you have any further questions on this or would like to be entered into the team please contact Jess at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Brad and Rachel have been working hard over summer to bring you some awesome socials for term 2. Keep checking the FB page and your emails. The theme and location for the first social of term will be confirmed soon.
Some of you may have noticed at the end of last term that we were experiencing problems with the lane ropes at St Lukes. Due to the size of the pool and the ordering process around this equipment it’s a difficult issue to address but hopefully we’ll be fitting some brand new Lane Ropes early on in Term 2. In the interim we’ll have to use the less affective ropes so I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
I know that’s a lot of information to take in but don’t worry because we’ll be sending reminders out throughout the term to keep you in the loop. I look forward to seeing you all again in the new term.
Splishy Splashy Love,
Sam Harvey (Club Captain)
