The new season for EUSC has begun in a way like no other, with record number of members signing up at Fresher’s Fair, once again. The pool is definitely the place to be; with busy sessions there is a great atmosphere within the club. To accommodate the increase in numbers additional sessions on a Friday morning and development session on Thursday afternoon have been offered and grasped with open arms by our members.
Our circuit session has jumped leaps and bounds this term, with new kit purchased and ready to go this provides the perfect avenue for our members to gain some land training in addition to training in the pool. Combining this with the continuing success of our Thursday Pyramids session, which offers 3 additional lanes, and our two coaches, Nye Levett and Jo John, both our BUCS team and development members will thrive, improving their strength, technique and speed. The success of our team at Karlsruhe Sprintnacht 2014, has resulted in huge demand for the EUSC trip to Germany. The trip filled up in less than 10 minutes, with 18 members highly awaiting the opening. However, in combination with Bath University we have managed to allow 23 people the opportunity to compete internationally.
The much-anticipated BUCS short course competition will be held in mid November, at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. We have been able to sustain the larger team as seen last year of 27, who are; Dominic Wooldridge, Joe Spurway, Jonny Brend, Joseph Massey, Sam Harvey, Alex Winter, Aeron Campbell, Jordan Lee, Eddy Wragg, Joe Ginzler, Alex Allen, Peter Lewis, Oliver Sherratt, Callum Aldous, Hannah Kern, Ellie Williams, Megan O’Brien, Anna Bedford, Lydia Smith, Keren Greenow, Yuki Yue, Katya Zossimova, Emily Weston, Mari Nerdrum, Hannah Pullinger, Dayna Riordan, Katie Lobley. Congratulations to all for their performance at trials.
To end the first term we will be hosting our annual Christmas dinner, which promises to bring festivities to all. The 2015 event will be held at Weatherspoon’s Imperial Free House on New North Road, on Monday 30th November. Come and be reunited with the friendly faces of EUSC, sing classic swimming Christmas songs and get presents from our Santa sack.
As you can see we’ve had great successes in first term, in and out of the pool, so we hope to continue in this manner for the rest of the year.
