What a week! I want to start by thanking every single person who helped during Varsity week, whether that was fundraising via the bake-sale or fun-run, coming along to the quiz, or swimming on the day. We had a fantastic week, raising a huge amount for our chosen charity – the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). In total we raised an amazing £2213.75 which I’m sure will be put to incredible use by JDRF! Starting on Monday with the bake … Continue Reading
On Saturday 4th March, EUSC proudly hosted 6 teams to compete in Varsity 2017! These included Bath, Bristol, Falmouth, EUSC A Team, EUSC B Team and Exeter Alumni/Tri Club, and all teams were out to emerge victorious after the afternoon of competing. Not only were there spectacular performances in the individual events, all teams proved strong in the relays as well – both serious ones and the infamous t-shirt relay. It was a close call, but in the end Exeter … Continue Reading
The 13th of November marked the first event in the University of Exeter Swimming Club’s calendar, with the annual BUCS short course swimming competition at Ponds Forge International Pool, Sheffield. Teams, from universities countrywide, swam over the weekend in full competitive spirit to create an overwhelming atmosphere. Our team of 26 shone above the crowd, with everyone swimming at least 2 events and assembling 8 different relay teams. The weekend was highly anticipated, prepared for through rigorous training led by … Continue Reading
A huge event in the EUSC calendar is Rock Solid, I know it is a long way until March 19th (Saturday), but it is set to be an absolute cracker and not to be missed! Set in the rolling hills of East Devon, Escot Park is where ROCKSOLID RACE began in 2013. Sandwiched between the steep inclines, you’ll face the deepest mud, freezing cold lakes and thousands of spectators, against the backdrop of spectacular scenery that will surely haunt you … Continue Reading
Looking ahead to this busy term, February 28th sees the return of our annual swimming varsity at Pyramids Leisure Centre, Heavitree Road. This year, all proceeds from the event will be donated to the MS Society. We are looking for swimmers from any graduated classes to take part in a EUSC legends team, which will compete in a variety of events against current students from Exeter and other universities in the southwest. This is a great opportunity to see the … Continue Reading
In the closing weeks of last term, EUSC had the privilege of travelling to Karlsruhe, Germany, for their annual Sprintnacht competition, along with university teams from across Germany and Europe. Travelling too with the Bath Swimming Team, our Karlsruhe hosts provided some fantastic food and drink, before getting down to the serious business of the Friday night competition. We had swimmers progress through the heats into quarter and semi finals, including Seun Olusanya in the semifinal of the 50m Freestyle, … Continue Reading
EUSC had 25 of its members taking part in the 10km RockSolid Race on the 15th March at Escot Park. This 10km obstacle course included 12ft walls, a cargo net, barbed wire, an ice bath, as well as a lot of mud. Everyone enjoyed their day and EUSC are looking forward to taking a big team to Escot Park next year.
This year’s EUSC’s Varsity event was a huge success, with Exeter A Team defended their title as winners, narrowly beating their rivals Bath by 11 points. Exeter Legends came 3rd, just ahead of Bristol, who unfortunately beat the Exeter B team. As a result of all the fundraising that took place on the day and in the run up to the event, EUSC managed to raise a staggering £1079 for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, the only adult Hospice caring for … Continue Reading
EUSC took away a group of highly dedicated swimmers to Cardiff International Pool from the 7-9th February 2014. This was too preparing those members of the Long Course BUCS Team for Long Course Championships and Exeter’s’ Swimming Varsity in March. Furthermore this weekend helped the team get used to swimming long course and bond through tough training and other activities. The whole team worked exceptionally hard and Squad Captain Adele Marsullo said “the team should be exceptionally proud of themselves, … Continue Reading
