BUCS Long Course: Weekend Recap by Sam Owen

On Friday 15th February EUSC travelled up to Sheffield with its finest young swimmers to compete in the BUCS Nationals  Long Course Championships, and what an event it was. As per usual the motivation was high and the good vibes were flowing for what turned out to be an incredible weekend of racing.

On arrival most jumped in the pool for a quick warm up before Friday night’s freestyle relays. We saw some incredibly fast swimming from both the men’s and women’s freestyle teams and they did our club and university proud with the effort and times they produced. Winding down the evening with a delightful spoons dinner capped off a great first bit of competition.

The following day everyone was eager to get in the pool and swim their hearts out, we saw some jaw dropping times and a club record broken in the 200m Mens Freestyle by our very own swim fresher, Joe Woollard. That, and everyone else’s swims were fantastic. We finished of the day with unstoppable performances in the men’s and women’s Medley Relays where some delightful times were produced. On Saturday night the whole team went for a lovely meal at ASK Italian.

The final day of BUCS (Sunday) everyone was feeling the pain of long course racing but that didn’t stop us from pulling out all the stops! Everyone gave it their all and left absolutely nothing in the tank with two club records being broken in the 400m Freestlye by Jordan Young and Paige Haden.

All in all it was a fantastic weekend where everyone was bleeding green 24/7, making our club and university very proud, well done everyone!
